I’m developing a new concept in my work, creating hollow “lentil” shapes as the base for additional work. For many of my other new pieces I am creating more complex shapes, but for this show I created the “lentils” to act as a canvas for some jazz related art.
In one piece I created the image only using pyrography. I created a basket weave effect for the back and outlined the letting and trumpet player with fine stippling. I also created a slotted knob on the back, so that I could mount the piece on a stand I created of oak and aluminum rods. This piece is called, “Blow That Horn”.
I added color to the second piece, creating a dawn light background and a blue St. Johns River at it’s base. The stylized Jacksonville skyline was then burned in using my pyrography tool and the word “Jazz” was added and textured and then painted with metallic dye and metallic acrylic paint. This piece is entitled “Jazz Dawn”.
I’ll find out this week whether they have been accepted through the jury process. If they make it they will be set up in the show display at The Art Center’s North Hogan St. Location. The show opens at:
229 North Hogan Street, Jacksonville, Florida
Opening Date and Time: Thursday, May 26, 2011
6:00 – 8:00 pm
The show will remain at North Hogan St. until after the Jazz Festival and then will be moved to The Art Center’s newest gallery at the entry level of the downtown Bank of America building at 50 West State Street, Jacksonville.
Please come and see the show.
