Mary Atwood, President of The Art Center, has been planning a facelift of the Adams St. Gallery for some time. On Saturday member artists with additional help from Hands On Jacksonville, tackled this big job, including all the members of the Turning Arts Group.
All the art had to be removed from the walls and stored in the hallway and all our turned pieces had to be collected and covered with plastic.
We masked in all the baseboards and then began the trim work. Tom Grzybala has painting running through his family bloodlines and jumped right in using his “heirloom” brush.
Thankfully we had enough tall people, like Bronwen Chandler to reach the high spots.
Gene and Nancy O’Donnell also helped with the trim and the high spots.
The folks from hands On Jacksonville were also great. Here are two of them giving our shelves a new coat of paint.
A couple of hours and two coats of paint later, facilitated by Bob Hunt who had to make an emergency run for more paint, Mary and Bronwen were happy it was all done and stuck a little “American Gothic” pose.
It was a great crew and everybody worked like crazy to complete the project. Now all that has to be done if to have all the art rehung and our pieces reshelved.
